Manapua
Manapua
Steamed or baked, this dim sum-type treat first introduced in Hawaii by Chinese laborers working sugar plantation fields remains a favorite any-time-of-day snack. Most here prefer their manapua steamed, with the soft, sweet white bun filled with everything from char siu pork to oyster sauce chicken or curry chicken to hot dogs and more.

Fresh pineapple
Fresh pineapple
Barely 2 percent of the world’s pineapple crop is still grown in Hawaii—once the world’s pineapple-producing epicenter. The Kona Sugarloaf—a white flesh variety that’s super sweet with no acidity.
