Official Hawaii 50th Anniversary of Statehood Commission events
Here’s a list of statehood-commemorating events being presented or sponsored by the Hawaii 50th Anniversary of Statehood Commission, in August and September.
• Fri., Aug. 21-Honolulu. New Horizons for the Next 50 Years. A one-day conference at the Hawaii Convention Center, bringing together Hawai‘i citizens representing different industries and interests, to reflect on Hawaii accomplishments in the last half-century, while exploring the vision for Hawai‘i’s next 50 years. Big Island of Hawaii
• Sun., Aug. 23-Kona. A statehood event held in conjunction with the Alii Drive Stroll. The event will feature displays and booths from area businesses. The Makaha Sons are scheduled to perform. 1 to 4 p.m. (808) 961-8507.
• September 20, 21-Lihue. Kauai Mokihana Festival. A Statehood Commission-sponsored festival. Cultural events include the Hawaii Instrumental Competition on Sun., Sept. 20 and the Kauai Composers Contest on Mon., Sept. 21. For more information, click here or call (808) 742-1234.
• August 21-Hana. 50 Years of Hawaiian Cultural Renaissance. Hawaiian craft demonstrations, food and movie showings. Eddie Kamae and The Sons of Hawaii are scheduled to perform. Hana Beach Park, 11 a.m.
