No. 3
Haleakala, Maui
The awe-inspiring celestial phenomenon of sunset (and sunrise) at Haleakala's summit is worth the 1.5-hour drive from Kahului. The Haleakala National Park Service visitor centers closes before sunset. So, consider arriving earlier in day to sign up for guided activities, ranging from a "cloud forest hike" to orientation talks offered by area naturalists. And no matter how warm the day may be, you can expect chilly temperatures as the sun goes down —bring winter-weather clothes, if possible. If you need to improvise a bit, bring blankets and beach towels.
