We're doing it again!
For a third year in a row, HAWAII Magazine is giving away a free round-trip for two to Oahu and a five-day, four-night stay in Waikiki to attend the annual Aloha Festivals in our 2013 HAWAII Magazine Aloha Festivals Oahu Flyaway.
The Aloha Festivals, now in its 67th year, is one of Hawaii’s longest-running cultural showcases and celebrations of Hawaii music, dance and history. Founded in 1946 as Aloha Week, the celebration was renamed Aloha Festivals in 1991. This year’s Oahu events begin on Sept. 12 and continue until Sept. 28.
In a news release issued by organizers, Helene “Sam” Shenkus, co-chair of the Aloha Festivals board of directors, said this year’s theme, Moana Nui Akea, which translates as “Celebrate Ocean Voyaging,” salutes the “brave and inspiring canoe-builders, voyagers and navigators who have strived tirelessly to help keep our native culture vibrant.”
Among the fests' highlights is the annual Aloha Festivals Floral Parade. Set for Sept. 28, the parade will kick off at Ala Moana Beach Park, head down Waikiki beachfront main drag Kalakaua Avenue, and end at Kapiolani Park at the foot of Diamond Head. And from start to finish, parade participants will include a colorful equestrian procession of pau riders, flower-bedecked floats, hula halau (hula groups) and marching bands.
Oh, and one more thing. You and a guest could be there to watch it all, with VIP seating along the parade route!
Here's what the lucky winner of HAWAII Magazine’s Aloha Festivals Flyaway will get:
• Complimentary Hawaiian Airlines round-trip coach airfare for the winner and one guest between Oahu and one of 11 gateway cities served by Hawaiian Airlines in North America.
• Five-days/four-nights (Sept. 26-30) complimentary accommodations at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki.
• Dinner for two at the Royal Hawaiian Center in Waikiki.
•. Passes for the Pearl Harbor & Honolulu City Highlights Tour. Also, passes for the South Shore Sea Cliffs Adventure Tours courtesy of Gray Line Hawaii/Polynesian Adventure Tours.
• Merchandise gifts from the Aloha Festivals.
• VIP seating at the 67th Annual Aloha Festivals Floral Parade, on Sept. 28.
