YOUR PHOTO COULD WIN YOU A FREE HAWAII VACATION!

Want to win a vacation in Hawaii? That amazing photo you snapped on your last visit to our Islands could be the grand-prize winner in our 14th Annual HAWAII Magazine Photo Contest!

We're flying our grand-prize winner to Oahu on Alaska Airlines for a six-night stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort! 

Please read the Official Photo Contest Rules, listed below, carefully. You may enter up to eight (8) photos, but no more than two (2) per category, by Fri., Aug. 3, 2012.

There will be nine prizes—one grand prize, four first-place and four second-place prizes. Winning photos will be published in the January/February 2013 issue of HAWAII Magazine.


Enter your photos in one of the following four categories:


• PEOPLE:

Photos depicting individuals or groups, residents or visitors, doing anything or nothing at all, indoors or outdoors, on any island.


• OUTDOORS:

Photos depicting Hawaii's multitude of outdoor landscapes—scenic or not-so-scenic, natural or man-made, country or urban, land or sea, mountain or beach, close up or faraway.


• CULTURE:

Photos depicting Hawaii's many diverse cultures—from Hawaiian to Japanese, Portuguese to Filipino, and everything in between. Images may be of events, people, activities, artifacts, memorabilia, architecture, locations, etc., spotlighting a single culture or many.


• ABSTRACT:

Photos depicting Hawaii or elements of Hawaii in a unique, creative or rarely seen way. Your chance to get experimental.


Your submitted photos can be of anything matching each category, but need to have been photographed in Hawaii after May 2009.

Entries that fail to comply with photo contest rules will be disqualified. Photos will not be returned.


HERE ARE THIS YEAR'S PRIZES:

GRAND PRIZE (one winner):

• Airfare for two to Oahu from Alaska Airlines from your nearest Alaska Airlines gateway city.

• A six-night stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort.


FIRST-PLACE PRIZES (one winner in each category):

• First-place winners in each category will receive $100 cash, and prizes from Lanikai Bath and Body, Oils of Aloha and Hawaiian Bath & Body.


SECOND-PLACE PRIZES (one winner in each category):

• Second-place winners in each category will receive $75 cash, and prizes from Lanikai Bath and Body, Oils of Aloha and Hawaiian Bath & Body.


Official Contest Rules

1.    All contest entries must be postmarked by Fri., Aug. 3, 2012.
2.    HAWAII Magazine’s contest is open to all photographers, except employees of HAWAII Magazine, PacificBasin Communications and aio Group.
3.    Contestants may enter two (2) photographs per category for a maximum of eight (8) entries. Each entry must be submitted separately, one per envelope.
4.    Please write the category of the photograph on the front of the envelope, near the lower left corner.
5.    Color, black and white, and sepia pictures (no glass-mounted slides) are eligible.
6.    Prints must be 4-by-6 inches or larger. Please do not send negatives.
7.    Please do not send your only copy of a photo. Photos/CDs will not be returned.
8.    We highly encourage digital photography, but each digital photo must be submitted on a CD and accompanied with a photo print. One image per CD. Do not email photos.
9.    Digital images should be formatted to 300 dpi (TIFF, EPS or JPG format). CDs without a photo print will be disqualified.
10.    Only photos taken in Hawaii are eligible. All photos should state when and where they were taken and (if possible) include the names of people pictured. Photos submitted must have been taken after May 2009.
11.    A signed model release form is not needed if the photo was taken at a public event or festival, or depicts an immediate family member.
12.    Each photograph entered must have a separate, completed entry form. Photocopies of the entry form are acceptable.
13.    HAWAII Magazine and PacificBasin Communications are not responsible for lost or damaged photos.
14.    Please do not send any previously published photographs. (This does not apply to “HawaiiMagazine.com Photos of the Week” entries and/or winners. These photos are eligible. However, each photo must be resubmitted and mailed with an official photo contest entry form. Submissions without an entry form or without a photo print will be disqualified.)
15.    Winners will be notified in December 2012, after the final judging by HAWAI‘I Magazine.
16.    The 14th Annual Photo Contest winning photos will be published in the January/February 2013 issue of HAWAII Magazine.
17.    HAWAII Magazine and PacificBasin Communications reserve the right to publish all winning photographs and to utilize them in the marketing and promotion of HAWAII Magazine and PacificBasin Communications.
18.    HAWAII Magazine reserves the right to publish photo contest entries for editorial purposes in HAWAII Magazine and on HawaiiMagazine.com.
19.    Entries that fail to comply with the Official Photo Contest Rules will be disqualified.
