Perched on Kalākaua Avenue in Waikīkī, The Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, is a striking site.

Nicknamed the First Lady of Waikīkī, it was one of the first hotels built in the area, and today it’s among the most famous travel destinations in the world. The American Colonial-style hotel opened in 1901 with a rooftop observatory; a billiard parlor; a saloon; and Hawaiʻi’s first electric-powered elevator, which is still in use today.

More than a century later and after renovations and expansions, the Moana Surfrider still exudes grandeur. From sipping afternoon tea to enjoying a mai tai under the old banyan tree or simply lounging on the golden sands of Waikīkī Beach, the Moana Surfrider remains an iconic symbol of Hawaiʻi’s golden age of travel.

Whether you’re a hotel guest or not, it’s worth visiting Moana by Design, the boutique located in the hotel.
