Experience a Royal Night at ʻIolani Palace
Celebrate Queen Kapiʻolani’s legacy with exclusive evening tours featuring historic rooms, live performances and commemorative keepsakes.

ʻIolani Palace invites guests to walk its halls during its Queen Kapiʻolani Evening Tours in late December. The experience celebrates the queen’s birthday, with tours available only on Dec. 27 and Dec. 28. Tickets are available now.

“In the evening light, you feel the presence of our aliʻi in these halls,” said Paula Akana, president and CEO of the Friends of ʻIolani Palace, in a news release. “To walk through the rooms where Queen Kapiʻolani lived and welcomed guests is a special honor, and we are grateful to share this experience with our community.”

Located in Downtown Honolulu, ʻIolani Palace is an enduring symbol of the Hawaiian monarchy. Construction of the palace began under King Kalākaua on Dec. 31, 1879, and was completed in 1882. It is the only royal palace on U.S. soil and it is a National Historic Landmark.

The guided tour will lead guests through Queen Kapiʻolani’s bedroom, Music Room, Blue Room and Throne Room. There will also be special performances by Chamber Music Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi Opera Theatre, renowned singer-songwriter Kuʻuipo Kumukahi and more.

With each ticket, guests will receive a Queen Kapiʻolani commemorative coin as a keepsake.

Held in honor of Queen Kapiʻolani’s birthday on Dec. 31, these evening tours offer a rare opportunity to explore Hawaiʻi’s royal residence after sunset. Tours will run from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on both days, with entry times every 15 minutes.
