2017 Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks shows around Hawaii

Here's where to go to celebrate Independence Day on Oahu, Kauai, Maui and Hawaii Island.

Wear your favorite red, white and blue attire and head to one of these celebrations and fireworks displays happening in the Islands, all of which take place on Tuesday, July 4.
 

OAHU

Picnic on the Pier at Pearl Harbor
Celebrate Independence Day with fireworks and fun on one of America’s most historic ships, the USS Missouri. Doors open at 6 p.m. Bring a picnic dinner or purchase food and craft beers by Gordon Biersch, and enjoy live entertainment by Kalei Gamiao and Jon Yamasato. Throughout the evening, tours of the ship and children’s activities will be hosted. The fireworks show begins at 9 p.m. and can be viewed from the pier or on deck. Presale tickets $10 adults, $5 children; at the door $15 adults, $10 children. Ala Moana Beach Park 25th Annual Fireworks SpectacularOne of the largest fireworks shows is also the most popular, so you may want to plan ahead if you really want to attend Ala Moana Beach Park’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular. First, you’ll need to find parking and get there early enough to get a good viewing spot in the park. Fireworks begin at 8:30 p.m. Be sure to tune into 92.3 FM radio to listen to the music the fireworks are choreographed to. Ala Moana Beach Park, 1201 Ala Moana Blvd., Honolulu, alamoanacenter.com.

Turtle Bay Resort Fourth of July Celebration
Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore is going big this year with an Eat The Street food-truck rally serving many barbecue dishes, a Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival and a 8 to 10-minute fireworks display that begins at 8 p.m. The event is open to the public, $10 per car. Turtle Bay Resort, 57-091 Kamehameha Hwy., Kahuku, (808) 293-6000, turtlebayresort.com.

Kailua Fourth of July Fireworks and Airshow
Kailua Town locally operates this event, which has a spectacular airshow, live entertainment and a dazzling fireworks display viewable from any part of Kailua Beach Park. Festivities open with the airshow at 5:45 p.m., followed by a live performance by the Marine Jazz Band and ends with fireworks over the bay at 8 p.m. Parking is limited and a free shuttle service is provided. KAUAI

Kekaha Celebration Event
On the sunny west side of Kauai, the town of Kekaha hosts a Fourth of July Celebration with lots of food booths, crafts, rides for the kids and a plantation museum tour. End the day with a fireworks display, accompanied by live music to honor our military men and women. 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., 8244 Elepaio Rd, Kekaha.

MAUI

Lahaina Celebration and Fireworks
Maui’s only fireworks display takes place in Lahaina at its annual Fourth of July celebration. Front Street will be closed from 4 to 9 p.m., so get there early to enjoy a full schedule of events, including a parade, a classic car showcase, food and drink specials, lots of live entertainment by Maui musicians, shopping and fun activities for the kids. Then sit down and enjoy the beautiful Maui sunset followed by a spectacular fireworks show beginning at 8 p.m. Front St., Lahaina.

HAWAII ISLAND

Turtle Independence Day Celebration at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows
Every Fourth of July, turtles received from Oahu’s Sea Life Park, raised and cared for on the grounds of Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows, are released back into the ocean on the beach fronting the hotel. The turtles will be gathered at 10:30 a.m. from the Honu Ponds and paraded to the beachfront for the release, after a welcome ceremony with a hula performance by Halau Waiau. Kailua-Kona Independence Day Parade and Fireworks Extravaganza
Each year, Kailua-Kona celebrates Independence Day with a parade and fireworks show. The parade begins at 6 p.m. at Kekuaokalani Gym off Kuakini Highway and proceeds south to Alii Drive, then south to Walua Road. Hilo Bay Blast
At the Mooheau Park Bandstand on Hilo’s bayfront, you can enjoy family activities including cook-offs, live music, games and a beautiful fireworks display over Hilo Bay. Festivities start at 7 a.m. and lasts through 8 p.m. when the fireworks begin.. Mooheau Park Bandstand, 369 Kamehameha Ave., Hilo.
