Celebrate 10 Years of Tin Roof on Maui
The community is invited to a pāʻina this Sunday, Aug. 9.

Chef Sheldon Simeon and his team are inviting the community to celebrate 10 years of Tin Roof in Kahului, Maui.

Started by Sheldon and his wife, Janice, Tin Roof has become the go-to plate-lunch spot for locals and visitors alike. Over the past decade, Tin Roof has expanded into dinner service, weathered the pandemic and helped feed the community following the Lahaina fires, all while serving thousands of pounds of mochiko chicken and more than a million strands of garlic noodles.

The free anniversary event is the team’s way of saying mahalo to the Maui community that has supported Tin Roof since it opened.

The celebration will take over the Tin Roof parking lot at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9. There will be live music from Chinatown Social Club, food vendors, a beer garden, and an exclusive release of a Sig on Smith X Tin Roof collaboration.

Nestled in a nondescript strip mall off Dairy Road in Kahului, Tin Roof is famed for its kau kau tins of mochiko chicken, pork belly and garlic shrimp. On any given afternoon, there’s a long line of customers, a mix of Maui locals, neighbor island travelers and visitors coming right off the plane.

Over the years, Tin Roof’s mochiko chicken bowl has remained a top seller. The chicken is brined overnight in a gochujang marinate. It’s then battered and fried—and then refried to order. Simeon tops it off with miso sauce, gochujang and roasted garlic aioli and housemade furikake mochi. The result is perfectly crispy chicken that’s tender on the inside.

You really can’t go wrong ordering anything on the menu. Even the side dishes shine. The beet box is a favorite, with fried beets topped with kale, shichimi togarashi, and Funyun furikake.
