King Kamehameha Day is not until June 11, but Waikiki begins its celebrations this weekend. If you’re here on Oahu, check out these events.

The celebration kicks off tomorrow at Aliiolani Hale (Honolulu Civic Center), where the King Kamehameha I statue will be decorated with 13-foot lei at 4 p.m., followed by music and hula performances.

Celebrations continue this Saturday, with a floral parade in Waikiki at 9:30 a.m.—beginning in Honolulu at King and Richards streets, passing through Waikiki on Kalakaua Ave. and ending at Queen Kapiolani Park.

Don’t forget to bring your camera. There’ll be beautiful pau riders on decorated horses (pictured left), marching bands and floats decorated with fresh flowers. More than 5,000 people will be in the parade, which will also be televised live on KHON2 (rebroadcast at 4:30 p.m.). After the parade, join in the festivities at Kapiolani Park.
