Our world-famous volcano-watching friends Steven and Donna O’Meara just sent this breathtaking new photo from their recent Kilauea volcano adventures for HawaiiMagazine.com readers.

Donna called it, “by far, the most majestic image I have ever taken in 24 years. … I always knew Kilauea was a world-class volcano and now she’s proving it. … This image for us is like being on American Idol and nailing the finals!”

We agree. It sings, Donna.

Here’s the rest of the O’Meara’s note to our Web site readers:

This is the most recent photo in our lava diary—taken at dusk on July 14.

Any of you considering a visit to Hawaii should come here now. Kilauea has not been this active in decades. Hundreds at the (Puna) coastline on Monday were treated once again to an Oscar-worthy performance. This, after almost a dozen nights!

It doesn’t get better than this!

If it does get better, tho, we’re confident the O’Meara’s will be there to capture it for us.

WOW, what wonderful pictures. I guess we came to Hawaii a few months too soon. We were there last September. Hopefully when we come again we will be lucky enough to see Kilauea showing her strength. It feels like I am right there when I see the pictures. Thanks

Terrible photos. That does not look like Kilauea erupting! The photographers went way over board trying to enhance a natural wonder. They should let Mother Nature show it as she will, and they are there to capture a REAL photo. Not these fake ones

Bella, go to the USGS's "HVO Kilauea Status Page" & click on Images, they are just as good & sometimes better than the O'Mear's, then tell me the goverment is faking theirs too. Since you have only been to the volcano when it's calm maby you should go now when it's realy showing off. Dusk or dawn is the best time as this is when the pictures were taken. PS, your comments have made PELE mad.

I disagree with Bella. Steve and Donna's photos are GREAT! Keep them coming! I agree with D Stahmer: Yes, don't make Pele mad. You'll never know what she'll do. Wish I was on the Big Island right now instead of Oahu so I could see the current erruptions.

Bella,Bella,Bella, it is quite obvious to all that you have a problem with the O'meara's work!! Which is world renowned I may add!! Actually, I am sure you many more issues than just that. I think it is clear to all that the problem you have is jealousy! So sad to see an adult acting in this manner! Do you really think your childish and false statements are going to undo what the O'meara's have successfully done for decades? And that is to produce some of the world's most graphic and exciting photo's and research ever known to man regarding volcano's!!!

Absolutely Astonishing! Kiluea gave us a display of such magnificence on July 14, all who were there will remember if for a lifetime, and speak in awe of it to future generations! I am profoundly grateful to Donna O'Meara for her skill in capturing this gift from our universe! Your work has alway captured my my attention, AND I understand why you are so thrilled by this excellent image! Wow. These pictures are unbelievable (but i believe): QUESTION QUESTION QUESTION: --> FOR THE UNINFORMED...If I wanted to play a trip in NOVEMBER 2008 to see as much as possible... IS THERE A "best place" to stay or a "BEST GUIDE" who could help or a "best WEB SITE" to go to to arrange this travel or ...????? My view is I want some help figuring out all the best ways to view this, some explanations, maybe help planning a hike/trip to get to some other viewpoints... whatever.
