Tamago sando, a Japanese-style egg salad sandwich, is a popular item at Japanese convenience stores, including 7-Eleven Japan. With its pillowy bread and ultra-creamy filling, the snack has earned a cult following among locals and visitors in Japan.
Now, 7-Eleven Hawaiʻi is bringing a locally made version to the Islands, and it will be available beginning Sept. 1 at locations on Oʻahu, Maui, Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi Island.
Closely modeled on the Japanese original, these sandwiches are made with light, fluffy, locally baked shokupan, or milk bread. Stuffed between the two crustless slices is a creamy egg salad filling that is rich yet balanced. It makes a simple and satisfying option for breakfast, lunch or a quick snack on the go.

“7-Eleven Japan is known for elevating everyday convenience-store foods, and we are excited to bring our own locally made take on its beloved egg salad sandwich to customers in Hawaiʻi,” said Greg Hanna, president and CEO of 7-Eleven Hawaiʻi, in a news release. “By pairing the Japanese-inspired recipe with shokupan bread baked here in Hawaiʻi, we created something that reflects both our Japanese roots and our connection to the local community.”
This sando is the latest addition to 7-Eleven Hawaiʻi’s selection of fresh, ready-to-eat foods, created with local tastes and convenience in mind. Across the Islands, there are 67 7-Eleven locations, serving local favorites from SPAM musubi to saimin and now Japanese-style egg sandwiches.
